What makes Bowbrook first
choice for many parents
and children?
Bowbrook House School is
a very different model. An
independent school that is
smaller, more nurturing yet
still highly competitive. The
larger models on offer in
both state and private sector
may not always allow pupils
to be known as individuals.
Pupils thrive at Bowbrook
in a nurturing environment.
Children from 3 ½ - 16 years
of age on one site, provide
the school with a very special
‘family atmosphere’.
“The pupils’ moral
development is excellent,
due, in part, to the positive
relationships displayed
between pupils across all age
groups.” *
Bowbrook is an independent
school which caters for
students of all strengths and
abilities; from pupils who
will gain 10 A*s, to students
who need support to access
the GCSE curriculum. We
have pupils who come to us
from primary, middle and
senior schools as well as
other independent schools
throughout Worcestershire
and beyond.
Pupils come to us for a whole
host of reasons. We have
individuals who are world
class or aspiring to become
so, in their chosen sport. We
have National Champions
and County Champions; we
have dancers and aspiring
actors who require time
away for rehearsals and
performances; they benefit
from the flexibility of the
staff in enabling them to keep
abreast of their studies missed
when training, competing or
performing. Bursaries are
available at the discretion of
the Headmaster.
“Participation in class
discussion, irrespective
of academic ability, is
considerable, and fostered
by a genuine interest in what
fellow pupils have to say” *
Many children thrive in
environments with larger
numbers of students. There
are some individuals however,
who for whatever reason
do not thrive. It could be to
do with friendship groups,
individual and specific needs
or even challenging parents!
“The quality of links with
parents is excellent. The
school maintains a highly
constructive and close
relationship with parents.” *
At Bowbrook we have small
classes, typically of fourteen
pupils, with year groups
of up to thirty. The family
atmosphere allows children
to thrive, where they may
ordinarily not have done so,
through no fault of others
but because they would have
been ‘lost in the crowd’.
“The personal development
of the pupils is excellent.
It is central to the school’s
aims of promoting its pupils’
self-confidence,
self-discipline and self-
respect.” *
Some may say we are
‘strict’; others may say we
are ‘traditional’ but a firm
emphasis is placed on the
development of the whole
person. The understanding
that ‘respect’ of each other
and each others’ differences
is central to the ethos of the
school. Every pupil has the
chance to play their part and
to feel valued in a small and
caring ‘family’ atmosphere.
There are many individuals
whose parents are keen for
their children to follow a
route to larger independent
schools. However entrance
exams prevent them from
doing so. Individuals with a
particular and specific need
may find a smaller setting
more beneficial.
“The quality of pastoral
care and the “family
atmosphere” of the school
are considerable strengths
that were echoed by parents
in their questionnaire
replies.” *.
Pupils for whom large, noisy,
busy environments are too
distressing and distracting;
the dyslexic student who
needs more specialist input,
extra time or tuition; pupils
who lack self-confidence
and self-esteem either
socially or academically.
We have found that all can
flourish in a quieter and more
structured environment here
at Bowbrook House School.
“In keeping with its aim
of meeting the needs of
individual pupils, the school
has very good learning
support provision” *
We believe we are a highly
effective, very different
educational experience; an alter
route to either the designated
secondary schools or the larger
independent schools or state six
forms. We would be delighted t
